Hosomichi?

Pronounced Hō-sō-mē-chēē - it means "narrow path"

“Oku no Hosomichi” or “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” is the seminal travelogue and haiku collection of Matsuo Basho.

Basho lived a stone's throw from my house in the old town of Tokyo. He set out from there on a 2,400km journey to explore Japan and draw inspiration. He was 45 years old, the same age I was when I set out to become a fund manager. I too am a peripatetic thinker.

Investing is also a “narrow road”: a limited number of companies create the majority of the value.

Basho sits outside his home in Fukagawa , Tokyo with my faithful dog, Kurumi.
